Wildermyth

Balance, Proportion, Movement, Emphasis, White Space, Unity, Color Theory, Contrast

Wildermyth is a concept app designed specifically for the "Bigfoot" hunters of the world. It's a community based app that allows like-minded people to come together and share stories, photos, descriptions, GPS coordinates, and any other information useful for the hunt.

Layout of Wildermyth & Principles of Design

The background, albeit busy, demonstrates multiple principles of design. In the foreground, the trees on either side of the screen show balance. When combined, the foreground, middle ground and background create a proportional rule of thirds. I create movement using the lines of the mountains to help guide the users eye to the Wildermyth logo and center text. Using smart animate, I am able to show and create depth between the three layers of the frame.

In frame 5, I use creature cards to show users what mythical creatures have been spotted in their vicinity. These cards, in conjunction with a dark overlay and blurred background elements, demonstrates white space, unity and contrast.

I took some artistic liberties in the 6th frame. I created emphasis on the dragon in the final frame by blurring the background elements, adding a subtle vignette and making a slight tweak to the colors of objects within the frame.

Color Theory of Wildermyth

I decided to go with a bold color palette for the Wildermyth design. My intent was to create a sense of a dark mythical world. I hope through the colors, the users will feel an eerie connection to the "supernatural" creatures of the world.

The bold colors are also used to emphasize specific actions and highlight important text against the somewhat busy background.

The dark blue shadows create contrast and help distinguish the foreground from the middle and background.
